ALASTIN Skincare | Science-First Skin Care
ALASTIN Skincare’s goal is to bring the highest levels of pharmaceutical science and innovation to the skincare industry, while creating a new category of products designed to complement aesthetic procedures and maintain overall skin health. Their deep understanding of the science related to the functioning of the skin, and decades of experience creating unique and synergistic formulations containing peptides and active botanicals that support skin renewal, are the keys behind ALASTIN Skincare topical preparations.
As we age, our skin’s ability to recycle and repair collagen and elastin begins to slow. ALASTIN Skincare offers an innovative collection of specially formulated and clinically proven products that include ingredients to help support the process of recycling and repairing. Meticulous clinical work and ingredient evaluation led to the development of TriHex Technology®, a combination of selected peptides and active botanicals that support the skin’s ability to clear out damage caused by aging and the environment and replenish with new healthy collagen and elastin. Whether the goal is to create an essential daily skincare regimen or to enhance the appearance of skin following some of the most popular skin care procedures, ALASTIN Skincare offers cruelty-, paraben- and gluten-free solutions that promote fortified, healthy skin so you can look refreshed and are free to feel fabulous and confident.
ALASTIN Skincare | Expert-Formulated TriHex Technology®
ALASTIN Skincare® formulates products with TriHex Technology®, a proprietary blend of active peptides and botanicals specifically engineered to work with the skin to help clear out old collagen and elastin proteins that have been damaged by sun exposure and aging, while supporting the skin’s natural ability to produce new collagen and elastin.
- Remove
TriHex Technology includes Tripeptide-1 and Hexapeptide-12 that support the REMOVAL of aged collagen and elastin, to help jump-start the skin’s natural rejuvenation process. Collagen and elastin break down and clump together due to photodamage and aging, which can slow down the production of new, healthy collagen and elastin in the deep dermal structure of the skin.
- Damaged skin barrier protection.
- Dry and dull-looking skin.
- Prone to the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and thin skin.
2. Rebuild
TriHex Technology helps the skin REBUILD healthy collagen and elastin to support visible changes at the surface level. TriHex Technology helps restore the optimal skin environment and create room for new, healthy collagen and elastin by removing the damaged fragments.
- Smoother skin texture.
- More hydrated skin.
- Skin that appears more elastic.
- Stronger skin barrier to protect against future damage.
- Improved appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and thin skin.
- Damaged skin barrier protection.
3. Replenish
With daily use, TriHex Technology helps to REPLENISH new, healthy collagen and elastin and to clear the damaged fragments to maintain healthy skin from the inside out on an ongoing basis.
- Daily maintenance with TriHex Technology for ongoing skin rejuvenation.
- Helps to maintain a more youthful appearance.

Sunscreen and Sun Care by EltaMD
EltaMD sunscreens help prevent sunburn and decrease the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging caused by the sun, when used with other sun protection measures. EltaMD sunscreens are formulated with transparent zinc oxide and are noncomedogenic, sensitivity-free, fragrance-free and paraben-free.
EltaMD broad-spectrum sunscreens provide safe, broad-spectrum ultraviolet (UV) protection. A broad-spectrum sunscreen helps prevent sunburn and if used as directed with other sun protection measures, decreases the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging caused by the sun. Ultraviolet, or UV rays, are part of the invisible energy that comes from the sun. UVA (aging) rays account for 95% of our sun exposure. They cause skin aging and contribute to skin cancer. UVA rays penetrate deeply into the skin layers, damaging collagen and cells which leads to wrinkling, hyperpigmentation and loss of elasticity.
UVB (burning) rays mostly affect the outer layer of the skin. They cause sunburns and tanning that increase the risk of skin cancer and other disorders. The risk for skin cancer doubles in people who have had five or more sunburns. (Skin Cancer Foundation-Nov. 2010)
When wearing EltaMD sunscreens, the UVA and UVB rays reflect and scatter away from your skin, providing you protection from sunburn. EltaMD sunscreens help prevent sunburn and, if used as directed with other sun protection measures, decrease the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging caused by the sun.
HOW EltaMD SUNSCREENS WORK.
All EltaMD sunscreens are formulated with zinc oxide, a natural, mineral compound. Because zinc maintains its protective ability in the sun, it is more photostable than some chemical ingredients that may degrade. Zinc sunscreen blocks the widest spectrum of UVA and UVB rays, protecting skin against burning and the premature appearance of aging and risk of skin cancer. Zinc is safe for even the most sensitive skin types.

Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs – Skincare
What does Broad Spectrum mean on sunscreen?
ANSWER: The broad-spectrum test measures a product’s ultraviolet A (UVA) protection relative to its ultraviolet B (UVB) protection. Sunscreens that pass this test may be labeled as “Broad-Spectrum SPF (value)” on the front of their label. For broad-spectrum sunscreens, SPF values also indicate the amount or magnitude of overall protection. Broad-Spectrum SPF products with SPF valued higher than 15 provide greater protection and may claim additional uses. Only broad-spectrum sunscreens with an SPF value of 15 or higher can claim to reduce the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging if used as directed with other sun protection measures. Non-broad-spectrum sunscreens and broad-spectrum sunscreens with an SPF value between 2 and 14 can only claim to help prevent sunburn.
What does SPF on sunscreen mean?
ANSWER: SPF or sunburn protection factor indicates the UVB/sunburn protection provided by sunscreen. The SPF value indicates the level of sunburn protection provided by the sunscreen product. All sunscreens must be tested according to an SPF test procedure. The test measures the amount of ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure it takes to cause sunburn when a person is using a sunscreen in comparison to how much UV exposure it takes to cause sunburn when they do not use a sunscreen. The product is then labeled with the appropriate SPF value indicating the amount of sunburn protection provided by the product. Higher SPF values provide greater sunburn protection. Because SPF values are determined from a test that measures protection against sunburn caused by ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation, SPF values only indicate a sunscreen’s UVB protection. However, sunscreens that pass the new broad-spectrum test will have demonstrated that they also provide ultraviolet A (UVA) protection that is proportional to their UVB protection.
What is the meaning of the PA rating on sunscreen?
ANSWER: PA measurement is how the Japanese convert a standard UVA score from a PPD test into their version of UVA measurement for sunscreens. Japan is one of five countries that has a UVA measurement rating system. For the Japanese rating system the PPD score corresponds to a PA designation:
If PPD = 2-4, then PA = PA+
If PPD = 4-8, then PA = PA++
IF PPD = 8 and higher, then PA = PA+++
PPD ratings are the ratings used to assess UVA protection for sun screens. There are currently only five countries that employ some form of UVA testing: Australia (NZ), Japan, United Kingdom, Germany and the US. All but Germany and the US use PPD testing.
PPD is by itself not used as an indicator of UVA protection, but is converted into a score used by a country or region. For example in Japan they use a conversion system wherein the PPD score is converted to a “Protection of UVA” score or PA. Sunscreens are assigned one, two or three plus symbols (+) depending upon the PPD score derived from UVA testing. This designation would be required to be placed on the label of a product.
What makes sunscreen water resistant?
ANSWER: The answer to this question has two elements: the ingredient element and the legal element. But before defining these elements, it’s important to understand the definition of water-resistance for sunscreens.
This comes from the FDA’s most recent version of the sunscreen monograph. This document indicates that:
The water-resistance test indicates that a sunscreen product’s labeled SPF protection is retained for a certain period of time after immersion in water.
The FDA has created three levels of water-resistance claims:
1. Not water-resistant, hence an SPF claim only
2. Water-resistant to 40 minutes
3. Water-resistant to 80 minutes
Why did the FDA change how sunscreen is marketed in the United States?
ANSWER: The FDA changed how sunscreens are marketed in the United States as part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to ensure that sunscreens meet modern-day standards for safety and effectiveness.
What do I need to know when buying and using sunscreen?
ANSWER: Spending time in the sun increases a person’s risk of skin cancer and early skin aging. To reduce these risks, consumers should regularly use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF value of 15 or higher in combination with protective measures such as:
Limiting time in the sun, especially between the hours of 10 AM and 2 PM when the sun’s rays are the strongest.
Wearing clothing to cover skin exposed to the sun (long-sleeved shirts, pants, sunglasses, broad-brimmed hats) when possible.
Using a water resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating.
Reapplying sunscreen, even if it is labeled as water-resistant, at least every 2 hours. (Water-resistant sunscreens should be reapplied more often after swimming or sweating, according to the directions on the label.)
Consumers should also be aware that no sunscreens are “waterproof” because all sunscreens eventually wash off. Sunscreens can only be labeled as “water-resistant” if they are tested according to the required SPF test procedure. Sunscreens labeled “water-resistant” successfully will also be required to state whether the sunscreen remains effective for 40 minutes or 80 minutes when swimming or sweating, and all sunscreens will be required to provide directions on when to reapply.
